David Reid

PHYSIOTHERAPIST & EXECRISE PHYSIOLOGIST

“Pain is one of the most wonderfully complex and interesting phenomenons to study. Generally designed to protect us, generally horrible to experience, and can be absolutely debilitating in a certain context. I consider myself in the wider physiotherapy profession as a pain expert in human movement. To me, it’s all about why – why is the pain there, what is driving it and can we get rid of it as quickly as possible. And I will apply these questions to everyone from a garden variety ankle sprain to a victim of a car accident who can’t even handle the lightest of touches near their neck. These questions allow a better understanding and empowering of my clients who can feel much more in control of their pain, not the other way around.

Growing up in Wollongong, my first contact with a physiotherapist was at the tender age of 14 after fracturing my collarbone when touch footy turned to tackle after the bell rang at school lunch. You’d think a bloke might learn, but a year later my ankle was fractured in exactly the same scenario, with some more trips to the local physio. It spurned great respect for the profession and set me on a path to where I am today. I studied my first degree in Wollongong to become an Exercise Physiologist, however, my interest lay in changing pain with my hands, so Physiotherapy was the next logical step. This landed me at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, where I graduated with a Master of Physiotherapy in 2014. I moved to the Central Coast of NSW for 4 years learning and plying my craft under some excellent mentors before chasing my dolphin-training girlfriend back to the Goldy at the start of 2019. I have now bought a house in Mermaid Beach and am looking forward to settling in for the next few years!

Outside of the clinic, you’ll most likely find me playing football (round ball variety), cricket, or being on the sideline supporting other teams in the club or watching any variety of sport on the tv (most probably with a delicious cold beverage in hand).

My interests lay in complex pain disorders, vestibular disorders (vertigo and other types of dizziness), sporting injuries and returning athletes to their sport of choice, along with all types of back and neck pain. I love getting to know people, hearing their stories and love my mighty (or not so mighty) St George Illawarra Dragons.”
